Gang bombs 3 ATM's, loot in mielie bags

2012-04-21 22:43

Johannesburg - A gang armed with semi-automatic weapons bombed three ATM machines in Estcourt, in the KwaZulu-Natal midlands, according to a report on Saturday.

Police spokesperson Thulani Zwane said that in the early hours of Friday morning 15 men attacked a security guard and engaged in a shootout with a security patrol, the Witness reported.

Mac Mkhwanazi, owner of the security company, said the heavily armed gang closed off the entrances to the central business district before bombing ABSA and FNB ATMs in the banks' foyers.

Other eyewitnesses claimed the gang had carried off the spoils of the crime spree in mielie bags.

The crimes were not captured on the municipality's camera network.

An official told the newspaper that the security cameras had not been repaired since they broke down almost two years ago.

This is just negligence on the part of banks, the can protect the atms with dye pack that fill the atm rooms full of purple dye in event of an explosion. But its cheaper to insure in the short term until the insurance premiums are to expensive.

Or just people with enough reason, desperation and they discovered anarchist cookbook 2012 edition. =/ options arnt limited to just military trained people sadly.would be nice though, help narrow it down for the police, not that they ever do their jobs, but hey

I use to live in Estcourt and the ATM's that were bombed are less than 100 metres from the towns police station. How do they have a shootout that close to the police station and not have the police respond? Goes to show just how useless the police actually are!

      phoofolo.lebohang - 2012-04-22 11:11

What the police must do? whose alerted the cops? Everything which is bad its abt the police, if the poor police respond to that crime, and shoot they going to charged...

      Keith - 2012-05-30 09:47

The police should alert the cops about the robberies mate!Once the police see there is a robbery they should diall 10111 emergency or dial Zumas office and asked if he authorised the Job.

      Matthew - 2012-05-30 11:13

"police should alert the cops" Huh?! explain that please?

Mmmmm, something fishy... Two years without repairing manucipality cameras. The plan its took two years also, coz you can't think to rob today then tomorrow you win. Look now, bcoz the plan its succesful, cameras they will be repaires within 2 weeks.
