Gauteng police: Cop injured in highway shoot-out stable

2015-03-30 10:12

Johannesburg - A Gauteng police officer is in a stable condition following a shoot-out on the N3 highway in Modderfontein on Sunday.

Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Noxolo Kweza told News24 that rumours circulating on social media that a third officer who was shot in the incident had died were untrue, and he is in hospital.

One police officer died on the scene after he was shot in the head and another died later in hospital. Kweza also confirmed that three officers were shot and not four as some reports said.

The shoot-out occurred after police stopped a suspicious vehicle on the N3 south in Modderfontein.

Kweza said one suspect was in a critical condition after he was also shot during the incident.

She said no arrests had been made, and could not say how many suspects were involved.
