Gauteng warns of cash-for-jobs scam

2012-09-17 11:32

Johannesburg - An unknown man has been scamming the unemployed with promises of jobs at the Gauteng health department if they pay him a fee, the department said on Monday.

The man allegedly operated in Ekurhuleni, Soweto, and the Vaal area, offering jobs at the new Natalspruit Hospital after it became operational, spokesperson Simon Zwane said in a statement.

The fees started at R3 000 for the position of a cleaner and increased with higher job positions.

"As the department, we would like to warn job seekers against this practice. If and when the department has to fill vacancies, posts will be advertised and selections made from the applications received," Zwane said.

He said no one would be employed from the gate of the hospital and no fees would be charged for a position.

The department urged victims of the scam to file complaints with police.

people are desperate for jobs (PROMISED by the anc). YES it has to do with the anc as THEY created the environment for such individuals to operate within..!

bunu, please explain how you manage to use 'big' words like labour acquisition and criminality... but can't seem to arrange the other remaining words in a sensible manner. Sorry but I'm tired of uneducated, ill-informed, short sighted, morons who still support the ANC and REFUSE to see to which extent they've completely f'd this country up. Actually, on second thoughts, vote for them in the next election. Truly. People like you deserve to suffer the consequences of your actions. Just remember there is no country to the south of this one. Nowhere to run this time buddy.

this is been happening everywhere, the unfortunate is when you start saying ANC, people get angry. While on the other hand they've promised the same people free education. I think the reason the government allow 40% pass mark is because they want every person to illiterate. South African if we want a better life, we have to change it in the next election. Ask yourself, why the officials don't go to prison, if they do. They have a medical condition and get a parole.
