Port Elizabeth - A gallant burglar made such a good impression with his friendly eyes and firm handshake on a woman from Humewood that she didn't want police to catch him.
The burglar thanked the woman after robbing her of jewellery worth thousands of rands and showed her exactly how he had gained access to her duplex flat.
The woman, who lives alone in a flat, on Thursday admitted that she didn't want the well-mannered burglar to be brought to book, but she was still a bit nervous about the burglary.
According to the woman, who didn't want her name published, the burglar was wearing a stylish jacket when she surprised him in her bedroom in the early-morning hours of Saturday.
"He told me not to be frightened. He didn't seem too dangerous.
"He already had put my diamond pendant, ring and cellphone in his pocket and was going through my jewellery box," she said.
Gave him R800
The woman asked the burglar to leave some crystals that had mainly sentimental value.
"He decided to leave them. He asked for money and I gave him R800 cash I had in my purse."
In the lounge, where all the windows and front door were closed, she was curious about how he had got inside.
He showed her a window he had pushed open in order to enter.
Before disappearing into the night, he shook her hand and thanked her.
He also asked her not to call the police, but she did so the next day.
