German tourist drowns in Cape

Johannesburg - An elderly German tourist drowned in the sea at Sedgefield in the Western Cape on Wednesday, the National Sea Rescue Institute said.

Lifeguards patrolling the coast on foot found the 70-year-old man floating and unresponsive in the sea, it said in a statement.

"Despite all efforts to resuscitate the man he was declared deceased by paramedics."

Meanwhile, a 19-year-old man is missing in Hermanus after he was swept out to sea. The police dive unit searched for the man, but he had not been found by 16:00.
