Johannesburg - The new Germiston Hospital is still not ready to be opened,
despite promises that it would be completed by October last year, the DA said
on Monday.
"It is very disappointing that the opening has been delayed as this new
hospital is vitally needed. The department should become more efficient so that
it meets its own deadlines," said Paul Willemburg, the DA Member of the
Provincial Legislature.
Willemburg said he visited the site recently, and builders told him it would
probably take another month to complete.
He said according to the Gauteng health department's third quarterly report,
the hospital was 85% complete at the end of December last year, and Information
Communication Technology still had to be installed.
Department spokesperson Simon Zwane said contractors were busy with the
final work.
"We believe we are on course," he said adding that the hospital
could not be opened without necessary equipment in place.
