Polokwane - An 11-year-old girl was asked to clean a man's house, only to be raped and offered R10 to keep quiet about the incident.
The suspect was granted R2 000 bail when he appeared in the Mankweng magistrate's court near Polokwane in Limpopo on Wednesday.
He was unable to raise the money and was remanded in custody until he appears again on June 17.
The 33-year-old man has not been asked to plead yet.
Mankweng police spokesperson Inspector Peter Mailula said the suspect lived next door to the girl and asked her to clean his house on April 24.
She told police she was forced into his bedroom, made to undress at knifepoint and then raped.
She said she was then given R10 and told not to speak a word about the incident.
She only confessed when her mother challenged her about her change in behaviour.
Her mother took her to a doctor, who confirmed that she had been raped.
