Durban - A 5-year-old girl was killed when she was struck by a minibus taxi while attempting to cross a busy road on her way to school on Wednesday.

Crisis Medical spokesperson Kyle van Reenen said paramedics rushed to the junction of Queen Nandi Drive and Malandela Road near the township of KwaMashu during morning peak traffic.

“Crisis Medical paramedics arrived on the scene to find the girl had suffered a traumatic brain injury and had sadly succumbed to her injuries.

“There was nothing more paramedics could do for her and she was declared dead on arrival,” he said.

Van Reenen said police who attended the scene would launch a complete investigation into the cause of the accident.

He added that traffic on the main arterial road was adversely affected as emergency service personnel cleared the scene, having to shut down one lane while they did so.
