Cape Town - A 6-year-old girl is in a coma after she was caught in crossfire between rival gangs in Hanover Park and was shot in the head.
Eyewitness News reported that Leeana van Wyk was playing with a friend when the shootout occurred.
A resident who witnessed the incident said Leeana was playing with a ball when gangsters ran nearby and began shooting at each other.
A 7-year-old boy was also wounded in the shooting.
The little girl’s mother on Sunday said she wanted those responsible for the shooting to be punished.
“I wish there was justice,” said Louise van Wyk.
Hanover Park residents were angry about the incident with one person saying: “Our community are [sic] not standing together in this place. Every time a child’s life ends, nothing is done.”
Two men have been arrested.
