East London - A 48-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping his six-year-old granddaughter, Eastern Cape police said on Wednesday.
The abuse, which has allegedly been happening over a period of time, was only reported to police on Monday, said Constable Nolitha Ncanywa.
"We received an anonymous call from a person who said a man in Seni village has been abusing his granddaughter and on taking the child for a check-up, the doctor verified that she has been penetrated," Ncanywa said.
She said the child, who lived with the alleged rapist and her grandmother while her mother was away at work in East London, has been taken to live with her paternal grandparents.
The child's grandfather was expected to appear in the Peddie Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
