Girl, 8, abducted and killed

Johannesburg - The naked body of an eight-year-old girl who went missing on Friday was found near Modimolle on Saturday morning, Limpopo police said.

"The girl was found strangled in the bushes outside Modimolle (formerly Nylstroom) at 09:00, and the possibility that she was raped cannot be ruled out," said Superintendent Mohale Ramatseba.

The child was abducted on Friday while she and her six-year-old neighbour were on their way from Phomolong township to collect money from her uncle at the Flora Park informal settlement.

"On their way they met an unknown man who confronted them. The six-year-old girl managed to escape."

An intensive search involving residents and police officers was launched.

Anyone with information about the girl's killer was asked to contact Captain Malesela Mogale on 082-565-8606.
