Girl, 8, drowns in North West dam

Potchefstroom - An 8-year-old girl drowned in a dam 25km outside Potchefstroom on Monday afternoon while swimming with friends, paramedics said.

The child got into difficulties and her friends ran to summon help, said ER24 spokesperson Derrick Banks.

The child's family took her out of the water and tried to resuscitate her.

Paramedics continued medical treatment, but she was later declared dead on the scene.

    Another tragic accident where a child is drowned due to lack of adult presence and supervision. Cannot believe how many people have lost their lives from drowning over this Christmas/New Year period. Most through lack of knowledge, supervision, stupidity and reckless boating accidents!!
