Girl bitten by cobra to lose her finger
Johannesburg - The 5-year-old girl bitten by a Mozambican spitting cobra will have her finger amputated, and part of the muscle in her arm removed, The Star reported on Thursday.
Mikayla Robbertse, of Lephalale in Limpopo, underwent an operation on Wednesday, her grandmother, Charmaine Robbertse, told the daily.
"They had to remove muscle from her hand and her arm up to the elbow, they said the poison had eaten a tunnel through the muscle."
Her middle finger would be amputated on Saturday.
"They just could not save it," Robbertse was quoted as saying.
According to Beeld newspaper she was being kept under sedation and would have to undergo an operation every four days for a period of two months for skin grafts.
A week before Christmas, Robbertse was bitten on the hand and elbow by the snake which was in her bed on her grandparents' Lephalale farm.
