Girl killed in North West accident

2012-08-25 19:10

Johannesburg - A 3-year-old girl was killed and her brother, 8, injured after the vehicle they were travelling in rolled just outside Carletonville, ER24 said on Saturday.

"The children's father was driving the vehicle when it appears that he suddenly lost control," ER24 spokesperson Vanessa Jackson said in a statement.

"The Nissan Navara overturned several times coming to rest in the middle of the road on its roof."

She said when paramedics arrived on the scene just after midday, the body of the girl was found lying a short distance away from the vehicle.

She had been ejected from the car when it overturned.

Her brother had also been flung out of the car and had sustained a severe back injury. He has been taken to hospital for further treatment.

The father survived unscathed after crawling out of the wreckage.

This is why safety belts/child car seats are there and should be worn.

Doctors and paediatricians have begged and pleaded to get laws changed for years now. especially those that work at Red Cross Children's hospital. The law at the moment is if you have a child-seat and don't use it, then you are negligent. They want the law to be changed to "you must have a child-seat". A recent campaign in the Western Cape, where child-seats were being handed out *free*, most declined. Some for absurd reasons such as "the child-seat doesn't match my upholstery". In other pages, people denounce the 'thinking' of some, yet fail to see where their own ability to reason is just as lacking

Accidents by definition is unavoidable. That means even if the vehicle incident can be called an accident, the death of the girl and the serious injuries to the boy could be avoided and that is no accident. The father was negligent to the safety of his children, finish and klaar.

Hope he goes to court on charges of murder, because that is what he did.
