Bloemfontein - Government and its structures are failing the farming community miserably in terms of rural security, Free State Agriculture said on Friday.
"You all know that criminals are simply operating with impunity within the confines of our society," the organisation's president Louw Steytler said during a media briefing on safety and security in the province.
The farming body was reacting to various farm murders and theft in the Free State in the last two months.
Steytler also announced that Free State Agriculture has forwarded statistics on crime and farm murders within the province for a legal opinion for a possible class action against the State.
"It is in regard to their [the State's] failure in terms of safety and security to farmers in general."
Steytler said the organisation had asked that the safety of "soft targets" like old people and other identified individuals be given special attention from within the farming community.
