Grahamstown - A 28-year-old woman who was allegedly
gang raped by six men has died six weeks after the brutal attack, according to
a report on Monday.
The Cape Times reported that Thandiswa Qubuda was beaten and
had her right ear slit in the 20 January 2013 attack. She was found partially
undressed and unconscious in a neighbour's backyard.
She never regained consciousness and died at Settlers
Hospital in Grahamstown on Thursday.
The six men were arrested for attempted murder shortly after
the attack and released on bail. The charges will now be changed to murder at
their next court appearance.
Eastern Cape police told the newspaper that the
investigation is still ongoing, and they are waiting for the results of DNA
tests.
Qubuda's cousin said she had been at a tavern that evening
and they got worried when she didn't return home. Neighbours said they heard
screaming and one of them saw the six men allegedly raping her.
