Bloemfontein - Police investigating the Griekwastad family murder in which a couple and their daughter were shot dead and their teenage son survived, are following up a new line of enquiry.
Beeld reported that police were now looking at cellphone messages between Marthella Steenkamp, 14, and her friends.
It was alleged that there may have been a kind of suicide pact between the girls.
Marthella and her parents were shot dead in their farmhouse on Good Friday.
Police reportedly visited the girl’s school, Oranje Girls High, where she had been in Grade 9.
Her brother’s cellphone messages have also been studied and some of his friends have been questioned, after Marthella apparently told some of them that if she had to die, she wanted to die quickly and preferred to be shot.
But the mother of one of Marthella’s friends said police were clutching at straws.
