Griekwastad teen living the good life

2012-08-30 09:14

Kimberley - A teenager who has been accused of killing the Steenkamp family on a Griekwastad farm, is not suffering too much in prison.

A family friend told Volksblad that the boy received treats, food and plenty of visits from family and friends in the holding cells at the Galeshewe police station.

The 16-year-old will soon have his bail application.

“His circumstances are very good. He is not suffering whatsoever and has more than enough contact with several friends, family members, strangers and legal people while in custody.”

The teen could wear his own clothes and had a cell with a toilet, shower and basin with cold water.

“According to him they got bread in the morning, mince for lunch and yellow rice and soup at night. He is refusing to eat it and is getting enough food and treats from friends and family,” said a family friend.

The boy’s bail application would be heard on Monday.

He deserves life in the crappiest conditions!

      michael.vanrheenen.9 - 2012-08-30 09:36

That police station is giving him special treatment! Probably because they know it's such a high profile case and that the media is covering it! He also sounds like a spoilt little brat! Refusing to eat food!

      alastair.grant.98 - 2012-08-30 09:50

Has he been found guilty of anything yet?

      bond.ndalo - 2012-08-30 10:13

Only in SA...one will get a 5 star treat while in prison.

      jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-08-30 10:39

bond, ndalo. Nope, in Scandinavian countries, Germany and Holland it is one man to a cell complete with own bathroom television, electric jug and microwave.

Anyone else getting the impression that criminals are treated better and have more right than the average person on the street?

      kala.bafazi - 2012-08-30 13:36

      Oh Yeah.

      charlie.elford.5 - 2012-08-30 13:59

If only his family still had the right to breathe fresh air - now his airs and flairs have to be accommodated with my tax money.

  • christelle.matthee - 2012-08-30 09:41

At the rate things are going, everyone will want to become a criminal...

  • shelley.vorster.9 - 2012-08-30 09:50

Yeah & I bet the friends & family of the Steenkamp family are not living it up? I dont feel anything for this kid - You MURDERED people, you did not plant a damn rose tree in their garden. You did the crime now pay the fine...

      jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-08-30 10:40

Shelley, so he as already been found guilty then.

      michelle.h.koekemoer - 2012-08-30 12:31

are the friends and family of the murdered family and the friends and family of the chap in jail not one and the same people?

  • veldt66 - 2012-08-30 09:52

He is refusing to eat food provided by police... S spoiled. In prison he will eat that, wait & see. Killing yr own family even hardcore S.A criminals won't do that.

      michelle.h.koekemoer - 2012-08-30 12:33

I don't know so much... have seen a few articles where a granny or someone has been killed for R20 or a box of smokes by their own family.

  • chris.heyde1 - 2012-08-30 09:56

This person is still supposed to be a completely innocent person by law. Our constitution guarrantee this and it is a good thing. Many people have been found NOT GUILTY later on when then whole investigation comes to light. You, as a law abiding citizen can be very easily arrested nowadays for many a reason. You just need a person to dislike you to make an unsubstantiated allegation that he saw you committing a murder which was reported on in a newspaper. Next thing you end up in police holding cells for weeks on end. It is here where you want the constitution to protect you. It is here where some people will also write in newspapers that you (innocent) must suffer. No, I agree. You need to be considered a free person until you have been found guilty. That is why you are able to wear normal clothing and eat anything friends/family can bring you. Because you are just held up so that your appearance in a court of law is guarranteed. You have not been found guilty.

      Msika - 2012-08-30 10:21

Spot on comment...but then, if other suspects are being held in messed up holding cells, why is this kid held in a 5 star luxury cell? Not unless all the cells in that police station are luxury, then I will understand.

  • Msika - 2012-08-30 10:15

Why is there such a luxury cell in a police station to begin with?

      wilna.nel.52 - 2012-08-30 14:31

      For politicians and spoilt brats!

  • catgirl1971 - 2012-08-30 10:21

IF it is the son that massacred his family may he rot in jail. However as the teen's name hasn't been released it's useless to speculate. It is horrendous that children are resorting to murder these days but in the so-called new South Africa ruled by the cANCer I'm not overly surprised.

      Antipoaching - 2012-08-30 10:49

Catgirl what the hell does the ANC govt have to do with this little psycho's decision to kill his family?

  • irma.white.9 - 2012-08-30 10:26

No no no! Stop spoiling this kid! Take away the food when the family visits! Give him a cell with no shower! He is a murderer- why is he living so well in prison????????????!!!!!!!!!

  • michelle.e.magson - 2012-08-30 10:27

crime pays. that's why there's so much of it. this teen should be punished. not treated. he defo won't be remorseful, cause he's got it good.

  • Riffak Traws - 2012-08-30 10:27

Good life? In a jail cell? I don't think so lmao!

  • Jo.Davies123 - 2012-08-30 10:36

    Spoilt brat!

  • lownabester - 2012-08-30 10:37

He needs hard labour, Spoilt brat. And he should not get bail. Just keep him behind bars. If rumours are true that he molested his sister, let him rot. Arrogance will be his downfall.

  • mandy.komlosy - 2012-08-30 10:41

Oh marvellous! We should let everyone who cant afford a decent living know that jail is the place to be !!! Kill a few people and you're made!!!

  • Liesbetpraat - 2012-08-30 11:28

Well, once found guilty, it will be different.....

  • michelle.h.koekemoer - 2012-08-30 12:29

Perhaps he is getting this "special" treatment because he is a minor; the rights of children, etc. etc. etc. Just wondering?

  • andries.vermaak.1 - 2012-08-30 14:45

Is dit nie lieflik nie, heerlik in die tronk agteroor met 'n selfoon, lekker take aways, net die Dstv ontbreek. Welkom by die Don Steenkamp surkus. Goeie voorbeeld vir ons kinders.

  • Gerald Jordaan - 2012-08-30 21:25

Not long before the little f*cknut serves time...and becomes someone's biatch !!

  • Hemlock - 2012-09-03 13:41

He deserves NO privileges. Make him eat the food in prison or go without. It's that simple. Little sh*t deserves nothing, not even our precious oxygen!

  • pngee - 2012-09-04 10:04

If this youngster did what they say he did he is a very troubled soul! As much as one resists authority or unfair treatment by parents one does not kill them for it.

  • elsbeth.verhoeven - 2012-09-04 10:54

Hoekom was die gewere tot die seun se beskikking? Die pa was agterlosig om die kluis ongesluit te hou. Iets klop nie hier nie.

  • morris.khunou - 2012-09-04 11:04

Not that I support murderes! What is luxury about a cell with a shower and basin! all cells are closed by security gates with no doors that offer privacy! A cell is a cell! the food he eats,it is his choice because he still has a choice.

  • pngee - 2012-09-04 13:26

If this youngster did what they say he did then he has serrious issues. Everyone at one time or another resists authority or "unfair" restrictions imposed by parents but one does not react by killing them very extreme indeed.
