Joubertina - The horror death of an 11-year-old girl has sent shockwaves through a Southern Cape community.
Roseline Majola was stoned to death on Friday night at about 20:00 on a farm by a group of underaged friends.
The group of friends, ranging in age from nine to 15 years old, apparently started fighting over a bottle of wine, said police. The group that attacked Roseline, consisted of five girls and one boy.
Police spokesperson Inspector Marinette Olivier said Roseline died on the scene.
"She had injuries to her head and all over her body."
Olivier said the six friends went to the local police station on Saturday morning to hand themselves over and notify authorities about what had happened.
They were arrested and placed in custody. They will appear in a local court on Monday.
Dalene Ritter, regional director of Child Welfare SA, expressed shock about the incident and especially about the increase in violence under children.
