Cape Town - A Cape Town man’s day out at the beach turned into a nightmare when a car guard allegedly caused major damage to his car after being refused payment.

Brett Rycroft and his girlfriend were approached by a car guard asking for money after spending time at a beach in Llandudno on Sunday, the Cape Argus reported.

“I saw him walking towards us and I said that I don’t have anything to give. Then he was insisting I say ‘thank you’, but I explained to him I don’t need a car guard because I have insurance.”

An altercation ensued in which Rycroft says he may have fuelled the guard’s anger by telling him to ‘go back to your country’.

“I could tell he was not from here because he had a French accent,” he told the Cape Argus.

Rycroft said the car guard stood in front of his car, hit his bonnet and smashed the car’s windscreen. He said the guard also bashed the rear right door and tried pulling open the driver’s door.

“He then hit my bonnet and smashed my windscreen on the driver’s side and bashed the rear passenger door, on the right. He managed to pull the driver’s door open but I managed to close it again.”

Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk said Hout Bay police were looking into the matter.

Rycroft’s insurance will cover the damage but he would have to pay R750 in excess.
