Johannesburg - The CEO of Fidelity Security, Wahl Baartman, says Fidelity employs 33 000 security guards and they were all given psychometric tests before they are employed.

Baartman was commenting after a 51-year-old guard appeared in the Krugersdorp Magistrate's Court after allegedly shooting dead two women security guards on Saturday.

Baartman said: "We're busy with the investigation.”

The shooting happened at the Transnet depot on the R28 outside Krugersdorp on Saturday morning when all three were on duty.

Baartman said the security guard on these particular premises would have been issued with a shotgun to protect the area.

"It is a very remote site... it is a high risk area."

Self defence

Police spokesperson Odette van Staden said: "The security guard shot dead two of his colleagues, both women, with a shotgun.  One was hit in the face and the other in the body."

A witness contacted the police shortly after the shooting.

"The man was arrested on the murder scene," said Van Staden.

She said he claimed he was acting in self defence.

Beeld newspaper spoke to the witness, who said the shooter told him afterwards: "I shot those two bitches. What were they doing here on my fucking premises? I killed them."

Van Staden said that the case had been postponed for further investigation.
