Johannesburg - A security guard was arrested for attempted murder in Brits on Thursday after he fired rubber bullets at striking workers, North West police said.
Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said workers at the Pat Cornick company were on strike demanding a salary increase.
"They were picketing at the company's entrance and attempted to gain forceful entry," he said.
"The security guard assigned to the premises retaliated by shooting at the crowd with rubber bullets, injuring one person."
The security guard accidentally hit the rear window of a police car twice.
He was arrested for attempted murder and malicious damage to property.
Ngubane said the police had gained control of the situation and were keeping watch.
