Guard held for killing train commuter

2012-07-30 15:37

Johannesburg - A security guard has been arrested after allegedly shooting dead a train commuter at the Mayfair railway station in Johannesburg, police said on Monday.

The man and two other passengers got into an argument with the 29-year-old guard on Saturday when he saw them drinking alcohol on the platform and told them to stop, said Warrant Officer Xoli Mbele.

When the men started assaulting him, the guard pulled out a firearm and fired three shots into the air.
Mbele said the men ignored the warning shots, and the guard then shot one of them, aged 24.

"The man was certified dead on the scene and the guard was arrested and his firearm confiscated," he said.

He was expected to appear soon in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on a charge of murder.

The people were drinking, and it seems by the article that they were assaulting the guard. He did fire warning shots, and they continued. He should get a bells! If they can attack an armed guard, just imagine if it was a good citizen telling them to stop drinking? Unfortunately its kill or be killed in our lovely country

@matome, why don't you walk into the sea and drown. What a moron.

I dont know of anyone that will still persist after warning shots has been fired at them. These metro rail gaurds get away with murder. Only a few weeks ago they were asualting people at Sepepta station in Cape town while apparently looking for marijuana! Since when did their job title include that? A commuters we are entiled to resepect and diginity which I garuntee the guard did not have at this moment
