Guards held hostage in Witbank mine

2012-09-12 07:06

Johannesburg - Fifteen security guards were held hostage by a group of 30 men inside a shaft at the Xstrata mine in Witbank, Mpumalanga police said on Wednesday.

Lieutenant Colonel Leonard Hlathi said the group of unknown men entered a mine shaft on Tuesday afternoon.

"The security guards followed the group of men into the shaft to fetch them."

Hlathi said the group of men then captured the security guards and held them hostage. Two of the security guards later managed to escape and called for help.

"More security guards were sent into the shaft as reinforcement. The captured guards were found and retrieved."

Hlathi said it was believed that the group of men were still inside the mine.

"No injuries have been reported and we are hoping to make arrests soon."

The Xstrata group was not immediately available for comment.

This is going to snowball due to the incapability of the ANC to control their little pet Malema, who is taking full advantage of the situation. I fear this is only the beginning..

In SA there are 2 types of people: Those law-abiding citizens who are peacefully helping to build the country. AND Those who are forever creating divide, hate and chaos, they are also the ones who are always demanding handouts, unfortunately looking at JuJu's support these are the majority citizens. After reading the past 2 months news, all I can say is I'm very disappointed in the people of South Africa, what a disgrace... its like stepping back in time 2000 years.

Simple, switch off the ventilation fans and they will come out soon enough, either walking or in body bags but they will come out.

South Africa is turning out to be just another African country with violence, murder and kidnapping! This once civil country is going down and is fast becoming a joke in the eyes of the world. Is this what people like Madiba and the likes had in mind when they were fighting for democracy? I believe NOT!

The cANCer government needs to grow a big set of balls and quickly. They need to put an end to this shyte which is rapidly getting out of hand. Send in the cops and army and deal them a swift blow. Arrest fatboy and charge him with a list of charges. Silence this fool and start governing this country before anarchy reigns. It is high time to vote the cANCer out.

Time to declare "A State of Emergency" in this country - that's if the ruling powers have the brains or brawn to do it. Definitive action by firm leadership is required and unfortunately this country lacks it. Malema should be arrested for inciting violence but who knows? Blabbermouth might know a lot about people that they fear being exposed ........
