Cape Town - The case of four men accused of killing a man after meeting him through classifieds website Gumtree has been postponed, according to a report on Tuesday.

The Cape Times reported that Jason Elias, 30, Rameez Felix, 29, Shawaal Staggie, 26, and Soegbudien Abvajee, 52, would appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate's Court on September 18 for a bail application.

The four appeared in court on Monday, where they were ordered to remain in custody at Pollsmoor Prison.

They are accused of killing Olwyn Cowley, 21, whom they contacted through Gumtree.

Cowley had posted an advertisement for his silver BMW 325 TI.

His body was found at Monwabisi beach at the end of August with two bullet wounds to the head. His BMW was later found in Mitchells Plain.

Not the world.....South Africa. The only thing we can do to stop criminals walking out of a court laughing at the victims family is if they know there is a chance that the noose or needle awaits them.

This is not the first time such a thing has happened after posting a vehicle for sale on Gumtree.com Gumtree should post a clear warning on their website when you place an advert for a car, or anything for that matter. He was a young boy and obviously didn't know the dangers. We should spread the word and find alternatives - like meeting at a police station, or a public parking area, or outside a shop - anywhere in public and not to isolate yourself. Also, don't put your physical address on your gumtree advert - you can choose an area on the map provided, but typing your whole address in is just silly and asking for trouble.
