Johannesburg - Kempton Park residents were left shocked by a shoot-out between police and suspected criminals that happened right at their front doors.

Police were giving chase to robbers in a minibus taxi that suddenly pulled over in the neighbourhood, reported Eyewitness News.

“We heard the first shot and thought that it was fireworks, but when we heard multiple shots, we came out and checked what was going on,” said one resident.

The suspects jumped from the car and started firing at the police, wounding two officers.

Another suspect shot himself in the head when cornered by police.

Three men were arrested but police are on the hunt for five men who managed to escape.
