Bloemspruit - Police are looking for suspects who allegedly attacked and shot at a Bangladeshi national in Phase 9, Bloemspruit, north of Bloemfontein, on Wednesday.

The man went to visit his friend at the shop in Phase 9. The police said before getting out of his vehicle, he saw five armed men running towards him.

Realising his life was in danger, he reversed and the suspects fired seven shots at the him.

He was not injured, but two bullets hit his bakkie, Constable Peter Kareli told News24.

“The motive for the shooting is still unknown, but I can speculate it might have been an attempted hijacking or robbery.

"We have had a Bangladeshi citizen hijacked in the same area only two days ago and a man from Lesotho was also hijacked in Bloemspruit recently,” Kareli said.

“The victim was so traumatised, he could not even describe any of the attackers.”

Anyone with information about the incident should contact the police on 051 503 4000.
