Pretoria - ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe has lashed out at suspended Cosatu boss Zwelinzima Vavi, implying that he has weakend the party through factional squabbles.

According to the Sunday Independent, Mantashe stated in a report, titled: State of the Alliance: The Previous Five Years, that Cosatu was acting like an opposition party and disrespecting the ruling party. He also said Cosatu was abusing its access to the ANC’s decision-making structures.

Gwede did not however mention Vavi’s name but implied that this was due to the embattled boss’ leadership style.

Mantashe earlier said that the ANC did not need Cosatu to be its labour desk and warned Vavi not to drag the party into the federation’s crisis. Mantashe however warned that Cosatu is facing a split and said it was necessary for the party to step in and help. This however, was being made difficult by factional squabbles within the ANC, he said.
