Durban - More than 1 000 people converged on the Durban offices of the National Prosecuting Authority on Wednesday morning.
They were demanding that the NPA withdraw its criminal charges against ANC president Jacob Zuma.
Durban's West Street and Field Street were entirely closed off to traffic from mid-morning onwards.
The protests consisted mostly of people singing and dancing and waving banners up and down the two roads.
Durban's metro police had their hands full diverting traffic as the roads were closed off. Pictures of Zuma were to be seen everywhere with placards reading: "Hands off Jacob Zuma".
Numerous members of the provincial and local ANC leadership were to be seen including Durban Mayor Obed Mlaba.
Police kept a visible but low profile.
Zuma faces a charge of racketeering, four charges of corruption, a charge of money laundering and 12 charges of fraud related to the multi-billion rand arms government arms deal.
