Hate speech charge laid against Lamola

2012-07-09 12:05

Johannesburg - Afrikaner lobby group AfriForum on Monday said it had laid a charge of hate speech against ANC Youth League deputy president Ronald Lamola at the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria.

"Due to the serious nature of the charge against Lamola... AfriForum decided to submit the charge directly to the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria [sitting as the Equality Court]," AfriForum's lawyer Willie Spies said in a statement.

The charge was laid with the court because it was the division where Lamola, who is a lawyer, worked.
"AfriForum issued the charge because the use of race as metaphor for the definition of inequalities in the community is extremely dangerous," said Spies.

The charge would be served on Lamola at the beginning of this week, after which he would have the opportunity to respond.

Last month, Lamola was criticised for his comments relating to land ownership. He told a media briefing in Pretoria that section 25 of the Constitution should be amended to allow for a change in land reform policy.

"The only solution is expropriation without compensation."

If white South Africans did not hand land to poor blacks, there could be land invasions like those that took place in Zimbabwe, he warned. He also reportedly said he could not guarantee the safety of "the Van Tonders and the Van der Merwes on farms".

In Durban, Lamola said: "We need an act as forceful as a war to bring it [the land] back to the Africans."
Spies said Lamola no longer spoke on behalf of the poor.

"He has now become an active instigator and champion of lawlessness and violent land-grab actions."

    another face of a racist.

      TSR01 - 2012-07-09 12:11

A non-white racist? See, its true! Anyone can be a racist - especially the ANC/YL and their discrimination against "whites" and "foreigners".

      Squeegee - 2012-07-09 12:12

Lamola should never be allowed to open his mouth again. Starve him. Silence him.

      Revelgen - 2012-07-09 12:29

Dear old Poly trolling again. You are still a 'slave' because in your mind you have never freed yoursef from what happened centuries ago. Maybe one day you will wake up to the fact there are many bright, intelligent Black SA folk who are bettering themselves day by day (I know a few of them personally). They are not lying down, justifying their lack of progress by using worthless old excuses. And you, Poly?

      Peter - 2012-07-09 12:33

@PolonyDonkim ... Hmmmmmmm .... Slave trade was started by? Yes? Who PoloniDonki? NOT the white race as you seem to want to infer boet. The first slaves were CAPTURED by the BLACK race. Go read your history. NOT the ANC version by the way. Do yourself a favour and read historical accounts written by people without any vested interest in the content either way.

I do not take these Afri Forum clowns serious to me they are just another AWB with their narrow minded, one sided hypocritical views.

    - Petitioning for violence in a country on the brink of turmoil. Did you stop to think what Mandela would say?

      ryan.a.smith.3958 - 2012-07-09 14:04

Mandela hasn't said anything in a long time. its disappointing, but he is old.

      ex.dutchman - 2012-07-09 14:58

What was the first song Mandela sang after his release from prison? Goolge it. Mandela would be giving Lamola a Bells.

      alon.fisher.752 - 2012-07-10 10:30

Madiba is old and on the last leg of his journey, so none of the new lot give a damn about him or what he wanted for SA's future.(Thats the impression I am getting)

  • julian.booyens - 2012-07-09 12:25

What is this idiot Ronald Lamola a lawer! and he makes statements like this, I sugest someonce check out his credentials and make sure they were not bought over the internet.

      ex.dutchman - 2012-07-09 14:59

And a very clever lawyer at that. He was educated during the apartheid era in an apartheid university.

      sandy.langenstrass - 2012-07-10 09:12

I think Lamola shows no signs of be a QUALIFIED LAWYER.Lawyers are usually discrete and guard their words...this idiot just says what he likes.Dutchman, I don't know if you saying he was educated in the apartheid era is a joke (must be)..because this goon does not look older than 25 yrs..so I'm sure he has put it out there that he is a lawyer to get the admiration of the "wet behind the ears" youth that he blurts out these dangerous statements too...a responsible youth leader (especially with (suppose to) be legal training, should never be trying to stir the youth to create a civil war...IDIOT...GO LIVE IN zimbabwe

      alon.fisher.752 - 2012-07-10 10:34

Sandra I am sure you meaned Excrete and not discrete, cos thats all our government is up to(excrement) while the masses starve and go without education.

  • Don.Tandy - 2012-07-09 12:31

I hoped that when fatboy was given the push, the youth league would see some sense and find a leader with credibility, someone with some positive qualities who I would not brand as a liar, thief, racist, gangster, bully, etc. - but no, they seem to have found in Lamoron someone who, believe it or not, seems less informed, dumber and more dangerous than fatboy.

      alon.fisher.752 - 2012-07-10 10:38

A case of Dumb and Dumber, when Lamola is replaced if he does ever get replaced I dont see any potential improvement, from a bunch of thirty year olds whom run around brawling like storm troopers, and flashing their backsides at every passing camera while calling themselves "Youth" one can't expect much credibility.

  • roftyleroux - 2012-07-09 12:48

Malema v2.0 (AKA Project Lamola) - Boldness Upgraded - Vocabulary Increased. - IQ Installed (still needs some work) - Note: Goes into race card loop. (Please Fix)

Maybe he needs woodwork lessons from his predecessor.

  • ryan.a.smith.3958 - 2012-07-09 12:53

Lamola is a lawyer ??? lol. thats proof that degrees can be bought. I doubt this idiot would pass matric even. well maybe in south africa nowadays ......

      themba.thwala.98 - 2012-07-09 12:59

A lawyer does not only possess a degree, but must have written an exam set by the Law Society, and satisfied the Court that s/he is a fit and proper person to be admitted as a lawyer. Having a law degree is just the start

      pisciotta - 2012-07-09 13:09

SA educational system is worthless. I would not be surprized if Ronald showed a diploma. In other countries such documents are on rollers next to the stool.

  • themba.thwala.98 - 2012-07-09 12:56

Lawyers are officers of the Court and must assist the Court in upholding the law. Is Lamola a lawyer? I doubt it. He's perhaps a law graduate, or must have forgotten that he took an oath.

      ryan.a.smith.3958 - 2012-07-09 13:22

ya maybe something like that Themba. still would find even being a law graduate hard to believe though because he seemingly doesn't have a brain

      alon.fisher.752 - 2012-07-10 10:40

Rudzani - put him on 50 hectares, wire the fences so he can't get out. Give him nothing but his own wit and the land he seems to so desperately desire. Let him prove to his supporters that he can survive by land alone.

  • Khetha Hlophe - 2012-07-09 12:59

I think He is right a time bomb is ticking and should the hell break loose please do not say you were not warned is inevitable that the land should be handed back. The sooner the better, courts will not be necessarily in the fields must surrender as early as possible because I do not want to see a New ZIM

      themba.thwala.98 - 2012-07-09 13:03

Use the Restitution of Land Rights Act, 1998 to prove entitlment to any land. Otherwise your invasion will be an unlawful act which I'm sure our law enforcement officers who are sitting around with no one to chase and beat up and arrest will enjoy doing. You want land invasions, try next door across the Limpopo River where chaos and anarchy is the order of the day.

      riette.nothling - 2012-07-09 13:08

khetha, taking the commercial farms, which by the way grows the food you eat, will not adjust the imbalances of the past or make the people rich! It will result in another Zimbabwe where there is nothing, the Zimbabweans are living on our streets because they are still better of here than over there! Black people must realise that the stories the ANC feed them about having land = being rich is nonsense, it's hard work that makes you rich, not sitting and waiting for empty cANCer promises.

      Steve - 2012-07-09 13:29

Jeez Khetha. You are such a narrow-minded troll. Do you really think that people are just going to hand over land? Better think again, because it is through sheep like you that will turn SA into another Zim. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      tiaan.fourie - 2012-07-09 13:29

Hey Khetha, go learn your own history my friend. When whites came to South Africa there were only the Khoisan here. All other black Africans immigrated from Northern Africa after that. Plus the whites earned those farms with hard work. What did the Zimbabweans do with their farms after they took them back? NOTHING. Go work hard for your own farm.

      Irene - 2012-07-09 13:48

LOL at Khetha. Eish we're not too klevah!

      handy.andy.773 - 2012-07-09 13:56

yes, I agree, hand back farms. In a few years from now I am going to buy more land at a discount once the incompetent farmer has eaten and sold everything. Then I am going to become even richer.

      themba.thwala.98 - 2012-07-09 15:09

Dude, Lamola and other free~riders might come back again once the farm is back to being productive and claim it again :)

      alon.fisher.752 - 2012-07-10 10:42

You dont want to see a new Zim? Than stop biting the hand that feeds you.

  • pisciotta - 2012-07-09 13:02

Give Ronald what he wants. A huge track of land but nothing more. Hot wire the fences and keep him there forever. Lets see how long he survives. By his own words he should survive as a Black in his native land. No whites, no foreign aid. Let Ronald serve as an example of how all Blacks can survive simply by having land - nothing more. No aid and certainly no Foreign Aid.

  • Erna - 2012-07-09 13:10

He's obviously not important enough to be 'disciplined' by the anc bigwigs.

  • Michael - 2012-07-09 13:11

What is it with the children in the ANCYL? why does their only solutions involve killing and war, why do a bunch of snot nosed pubescent ingnorants who never suffered under apartheid insist in taking what is not theirs? IS THIS NOT MAYBE MORE ABOUT FREE HAND OUT FOR THOSE TO STUPID TO MAKE A LIVING AND THOSE TO LAZY TO SUCCEED? The ANCYL represents a generation of lost children, who will die the same failures they have lived as.

      Steve - 2012-07-09 13:37

Ag shame! They all want to be like Juliass. All want everything for free, so if the can't get it for free, then they steal it, something they are experts at. But before the sun goes down today, ANCYL, please find something else to blame apartheid and the whites for. Must be hard watching Malema and his millions and be sooooooo stupid not to see how he has hoodwinked you all. The word sheep comes to mind.

  • mochabelamochabela - 2012-07-09 13:24

I don't believe in violence but somehow land shud be restituted. In the area where my ancestors are buried we have to ask the owner(white) when we want to visit and weed it out. It is obvious that the land is theirs hence there is a burial site dating far back.

      themba.thwala.98 - 2012-07-09 13:45

Can you prove it's your ancestors` land Mochabela? If so, why not get in touch with the Land Claims Commission? We have Resitution of Land Rights Act, 1998 which set out processes and procedures. Otherwise any Dick, Tom and Mandla can claim any piece of land they want.

      Irene - 2012-07-09 13:52

mochabelamochabela ~ What do you think would happen if whites went back to Europe where their great-great-great-grandparents came from and demanded the land because their ancestors lived there once upon a time? ROTFLMAO! You want it? Buy it and only if the farmer is willing to sell it. If not, take a hike.

      Nyiks11 - 2012-07-09 15:46

Good luck Mochabela , we got our ancestral land back in Steelpoort and we don't need permission from anyone to visit the graves of forefathers

Any fool believing courts are there as tools to be used by racist right wingers to silence long-standing legitimate grievances relating to land question is provocative indeed. We have said it before in this space: courts or no courts, we need our land back & it to be shared and worked equally among all South Africans. In this regard I must quickly point out that any diabolic & racist posture that counter legitimate grievances by self-enticing semi-dogma that says "land never belonged to blacks", "what are you gonna do with land, farming is science & difficult", "ANC government alone should take a blame of a failed land & agrarian reform" is well expected of racists. We are saying here to you boerkies, real change would not have to come smiling to unreconciled racists like a couple retreat by the park late sunday afternoon, it will have to be painful, compromising, characterized by support & hard work, & none of FF-Afri-Forum strategy to derail that is gonna stop change. Go on, charge people for raising political issues and you will see how fast they mobilize to remind you of your correct place in society through rebellion. The arrogant unreconciled boerkies in this country make South Africans think of Mugabe as a Hero

      sandy.langenstrass - 2012-07-10 09:47

castro...as you point out 'farming is a science and requires extreme hard work and long hours...and the weather is not always good to the farmer...so he goes through many difficult times...has to borrow money from the bank and take HUGE calculated risks which don't always pay off. QUESTION...Castro....what will happen to our food security, if these folk get this land?

      siphiwe.lebeko - 2012-07-10 21:00

i fully agree with you we cannot continue to accept the injustices of the past as if its something normal.this issue is simple if certain people don't want to rectify the past then guess what the past will repeat its self.rebellions will continue in many forms,it migth not happen now but believe when i say they will happen.
