Nelspruit - Mpumalanga Hawks boss Major General Simon Mapiane will learn next month whether he will stand trial for falsifying travel claims.

Mapiane appeared briefly in the Nelspruit Regional Court on Thursday, accompanied by his wife, a Sapa correspondent reported.

The matter was postponed to 27 March for the director of public prosecutions to decide whether it should continue.

The court room was filled with his colleagues. Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thulani Ntobela was also present.

Mapiane, who was in charge of the investigation into alleged fraud and corruption implicating Kaizer Chiefs boss Bobby Motaung, was arrested on 22 May last year after being accused of falsifying travel claims.

His trial was initially scheduled to start on 25 September last year, but was postponed to 27 November and then again to 13 February.

Mapiane is out on R1 000 bail.
