Cape Town - A Hawks captain accused of corruption and other crimes appeared in the Bellville Specialised Commercial Crime Court on Tuesday.

Captain Esmerald Bailey's trial was set down to start on 23 October.

She faces one count of corruption, one of possession of illegal ammunition, one of possession or use of the drug tik, and five of defeating the ends of justice.

Her alleged accomplice Waleed Diedricks has already been sentenced in plea-bargain proceedings.

Bailey was allegedly paid R4 500 by an undercover police official for a bag containing a police cap, a reflector jacket, a pair of police socks, a police shirt, two pairs of police trousers, and ammunition.

She was also allegedly found with missing police dockets, court exhibits, and a cellphone which was an exhibit in a Grassy Park case.
