Durban - Hawks investigators have swooped on additional suspects in the Cato Manor hit squad investigation.

While the overall number of serious and violent crime unit former officers picked up in Wednesday’s raid has not been confirmed, sources indicate that a total of 10 arrest warrants have been issued.

It is understood the additional 10 officers will join the 18 initial accused in the case, who are set to appear in the Durban Regional Court on Friday for an indictment to be served.

A date for trial in the High Court will also be set on Friday.

At this stage, it is not clear whether General Johan Booysen, former head of the organised crime unit – under which serious and violent crime falls – has also been arrested.

Booysen is currently head of the Hawks in KZN.

Sources say Booysen and his legal team were meeting with Hawks investigators at his office to discuss the validity of the arrest warrants.

The unit members already arrested on Wednesday morning have been taken to the SAPS air-wing base, from where they will be taken to holding cells ahead of their court appearance.
