Nelspruit - An Mpumalanga health department director was
acquitted on Friday of fraud charges involving nearly R300 000.
A Sapa correspondent reported that Maxwell Sithole had
been accused of fraud and money-laundering when he appeared in the Nelspruit
Regional Court on Friday.
He was arrested at his office at the provincial
government headquarters in Mbombela on 7 August last year.
He allegedly instructed junior officials to fraudulently
issue a tender to Donni G Trading - a company belonging to a junior official’s
girlfriend.
Magistrate Shirley Msibi said there was no evidence
against Sithole.
Sithole was out on R5 000 bail.
