Heatwave hits Western Cape

Cape Town - Intense heat is expected to continue on
Wednesday in the Western Cape.
According to the Cape Town weather office maximum temperatures of between 35
and 40 °C were expected in the peninsula and the Boland and the
southwestern coast to Cape Hangklip. A light southeasterly wind will blow
at Cape Point. It will be partly cloudy, but no rain is expected.
Meanwhile, farmers remained optimistic that the heat would not have a
negative influence on vineyards.
According to Boetie Kriel from Hex Valley, continued heat is detrimental to
grapes.
Kriel believed the weather would not damage his vineyards, but continued
heat over an extended period of time could cause damage.
Nollie Stofberg from Rawsonville remained optimistic that the heat would not
damage his vineyards.
