Hidden cameras led to Soweto arrest

2012-08-25 12:00

Johannesburg - Two men were arrested when hidden cameras in a hijacked bakkie led police to them in Dobsonville on Friday, police said.

Warrant officer Kay Makhubela said the men the bakkie was delivering cigarettes to a shop when it was hijacked.

The robbers took it to a different location, where they off-loaded the cigarettes into a taxi.

"Through the hidden cameras in the bakkie, we managed to see the taxi's plate numbers and trace it," he said.

Police arrested the taxi driver, who then led them to one of the hijackers. A third robber was still sought.

Let me clarify the situation here... Message was posted via cell phone. Probably you are not aware of the trend of shortening words for texting(SMS)..or just didnt think of it. The most funny part is that some people belive that sending 30 characters message instead of 50 will cost them less....hahaha Gudani.....fell free to post your comments in full here. No charge. Your message is 72 characters long. Don't worry. No extra charge. This is not SMS.

But why did they have to tell how they traced the stolen goods...now these criminals will find other ways of circumveting that system...police are stupid!!!

Trust me, it'll take them awhile. South African criminals haven't yet figured out how to use gloves to hide their finger prints, lol.

I don't know who's more stupid here- the cops for revealing how the robbers were caught, or the reporters for reporting on it

      Klaus - 2012-08-25 17:41

Sorry to tell you both, especially reporters, RSA must have the most moronic reporters of note

Police should ask the arrested nicely where to find his mate - after a while he'll tell them.
