Durban - A hijacker jumped from the car he had just stolen while the victim - a Durban woman believed to be a doctor - was still locked in the boot.

Police moved swiftly to arrest the hijacker who was hiding in bushes near Hillcrest and managed to stop the car and free the woman who was unharmed, reported The Mercury.

The woman was said to be traumatised and grateful for her rescue but did not want to talk to the media.

She had apparently been hijacked in the parking lot of the Chatsworth Shopping Centre by a man with a gun.

Her car’s tracking company alerted police to the car’s location and tracking officials in a helicopter as well as police officers were in hot pursuit.

Altech Netstar recovery agent Thinus Schoeman said: “When we saw the vehicle, the hijacker jumped out of it and ran into a bushy area. The vehicle continued moving forward for a short distance and the police then contained it.”
