Johannesburg - A truck driver was hijacked and had the wheels of his truck removed at Sundra near Delmas on Tuesday, Mpumalanga police said.
Captain Abie Khoabane said the driver was asleep in his truck, parked in Sundra, when he heard men outside the truck ordering him to get out.
"Four men armed with firearms approached the truck and forced the driver out.
"They tied up his hands and legs and then stole 13 wheels from the truck."
The men escaped with the wheels valued at R6 000.
No shots were fired and the truck driver was not injured, said Khoabane.
The incident followed a similar hijacking in Harrismith on Tuesday where a truck driver and his crew were hijacked and also had the wheels of their truck removed.
Free State police spokesperson constable Christopher Mophiring said three men approached the driver and his crew, got into the truck and forced them to lie down in the back compartment at gun point.
The robbers then tied their victims up, drove for about 40km and then stripped the truck of its 10 wheels and fled the scene.
They also left the victims behind unharmed.
All seven men are still at large.
