Pretoria - Two young men who pretended to be hitchhikers hijacked a car on Monday after the driver stopped to give them a lift.

Beeld reported that Sipho Mvuyana, 24, stopped on DR Malan Drive to offer them a ride, but they pulled out a firearm and ordered him out of the car.

“You think you help people and then they point a firearm at you,” he said.

“I can’t believe it but, oh well, fortunately I wasn’t hurt.”

A traffic policeman saw Mvuyana with his hands in the air and gave chase to the men speeding off in the Volkswagen Polo.

A high-speed chase ensured through streets in Gezina, resulting in a collision with other cars after which the men were arrested.

One person was injured in the crash and taken to hospital.
