Johannesburg - Johannesburg police on Wednesday warned against criminal activity and hooliganism in the Hillbrow area over the festive season.
Inspector Amanda Roestoff said police will engage in a clean-up operation, which will take place from December 27 to New Year's Eve.
She said all law enforcement agencies would be "throwing a dragnet" of security around Hillbrow and would be adopting a zero tolerance and hard-line attitude throughout.
Gauteng police Commissioner Perumal Naidoo said police would not tolerate any form of victimisation and or intimidation as a result of over indulgence.
"Those people responsible for littering in the streets , inclusive of throwing down dangerous and household appliances such as stoves, fridges, from buildings will be forced to clean up their own mess," said Naidoo.
The operations would focus on the maintenance of safety and security, arresting of criminals, illegal immigrants, seizure of unlicensed firearms and suspected stolen property and drunken and driving.
