'Horse killers' trial date set
Somerset West - Two men and three boys who allegedly killed a retired cart horse with a barbed wire bridle will go on trial in August, the Somerset West Magistrate's Court decided on Thursday.
Magistrate A Nziweni set down the trial to start on August 6 in the same court.
Benito 'Nito' Plaatjies and William John 'Vleisie' Williams, are out on bail of R1 000 each. The latter initially lied about his age to be treated as a minor. The three minors, who may not be named, were in a place of safety.
The five allegedly stole the retired cart horse, Bukshi, from Anthea Myburgh's farm, took him for a "joy ride" with a bridle of barbed wire and rode him to death, stabbing him in the flanks and stomach to coax a few extra metres from him.
