Hospital boss faces statutory rape charge

2012-02-03 12:25
Mahikeng - A North West hospital CEO and his friend were expected to appear in the Taung Magistrate's Court next week on charges of statutory rape, North West police said on Friday.

The 37-year-old CEO and his 31-year-old friend, an employee of the Taung municipality, were arrested in October after allegedly having sex with a 15-year-old minor on the 23rd of that month, said Brigadier Thulani Ngubane.

"It is alleged that [the CEO] who was having an affair with the 15-year-old minor, attended a party with her. He then had sexual intercourse with the victim and asked his friend to transport the victim home," said Ngubane.

He said on the way home, the friend also had sexual intercourse with the girl, and she later told her sister what had happened.

The sister reported the matter to the police and the two men were arrested.

Last month, the two men appeared in the Taung Magistrate's Court where the CEO was granted bail of R1 000 and his friend was denied bail.

The case was postponed to Tuesday, February 7.
