Hout Bay fire left to burn out

2010-12-12 16:20

Cape Town - The fire on the slopes of the Hout Bay mountains, above Penzance Road, is under control, the Cape Town fire and rescue services said on Sunday.

"Only a pool pump house was damaged and a few kilometres of vegetation... there were no injuries," said spokesperson Theo Lane.

He said the service was alerted to the fire at about 02:00 on Sunday.

The cause of the blaze was still unknown.

He said at one stage on Sunday morning there were 18 fire engines and water tankers at the scene, as well as two helicopters from SA National Parks.

"There are still two vehicles at the scene and some National Parks guys on foot monitoring the situation but I think it will burn itself out today," said Lane.
