Johannesburg - The National Sea Rescue Institute was searching for a teenage boy who is presumed to have drowned at Flora Bay, next to Hout Bay's main beach, on Sunday.
"An extensive sea, air and shore search has revealed no sign of a 14-year -old male, from Hout Bay, who is missing and who is presumed to have drowned," NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon said in a statement.
A police dive unit joined in the ongoing search operation.
Lambinon said an inquest docket was opened and the child's mother, family and friends were at the beach and were attended to by police trauma counsellors.
The boy's family, a motorcyclist on Chapman's Peak Drive and a policeman saw the teenager disappear under the water about 30m off-shore of Flora Bay while swimming.
