Durban - Two drivers were finded a total of R34 000 for speeding on the N2 at Park Rynie on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast on Friday.
The two were clocked at 185km/h an 194km/h an hour in the N2's 120km/h zone, provincial traffic department spokesperson Colin Govender said.
In the first incident, a 34-year-old engineer from Benoni, Gauteng, was fined R16 000 by the Park Rynie roadside magistrate for barreling along at 185km/h. He was nabbed in the northbound lane at Ellingham.
Manfred Ackerman claimed he was simply trying out his new Chrysler.
On the same day, Neil Dheepraj, 23, a driver from Durban, was slapped with a R18 000 fine by the same magistrate for going at 194km/h in his Mercedes Benz.
Last week a woman driver was caught doing 207km/h and a motorcyclist 199km/h in the same area.
A total of 19 people had been nabbed for speeding on the N2 since December 4, Govender said.
Govender appealed to motorists to drive sensibly, since they were endangering not only their own lives, but other road users as well with their reckless behaviour.
He said he hoped the fines would send a "strong message" to other road users.
