Johannesburg - A human head was discovered at a shack in an informal settlement in the Western Cape, police said on Wednesday.
Captain Elliot Sinyangana said the head was found on Tuesday in a shack at the Ndlovini informal Settlement in Khayelitsha.
"The head was covered in plastic and was found by a man who went to fetch certain items from his brother's shack.
"Instead of getting the items as requested, the man found the head already partially decomposing and immediately went to report the matter," he said.
According to police, the man's brother is currently in the Eastern Cape.
Police are investigating a case of murder and have sent the head for forensic testing.
It is not yet known if the head is of a man or woman - and police are still searching for the body.
