Johannesburg - The Hummer driver who crashed into three
motorcyclists, killing two and injuring one, has been found guilty of culpable
homicide, Beeld reported on Tuesday.
The Pretoria North District Court found Zambian citizen Indi
Himalindi Chiyabu, 31, guilty on two charges of culpable homicide, and a third
charge of leaving the scene of an accident and failing to report it.
Magistrate Ben van Schalkwyk said he was of the opinion that
the three motorcyclists could not have avoided the Hummer, and that the
accident, on 16 October 2010, was entirely Chiyabu's fault.
Pieter Coetzee and JP Kruger, both members of the Christian
Motorcyclists Association SA, died at the scene.
Coetzee's son, Pieter jnr, was severely injured. He regained
consciousness after a week, only to be told that his father had died and that
he had lost a leg.
Court proceedings were postponed until March for
pre-sentencing reports, and Chiyabu was remanded in custody.
