Pretoria - Hundreds of Zimbabweans gathered outside the Zimbabwean embassy in Pretoria on Wednesday to protest over the failure of their country to release presidential election results.
"The protest is over the delay of presidential results and the statement made by President Thabo Mbeki that there is no crisis in Zimbabwe. We believe that Mbeki has now compromised his facilitative role in the SADC. He must step down," said the executive director of the Zimbabwe Exiles' Forum Gabriel Shumba.
Mbeki said at the weekend, following a meeting with Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe in Harare, that there was no crisis in the landlocked southern African nation.
Mbeki was expected on Wednesday to address the United Nations and the African Union at the summit of the UN Security Council in New York.
After handing over a memorandum to the embassy, the protesters planned to march to the Union Buildings and the United Nations offices where memorandums would be handed over.
The group includes members of the Forum, the Global Diaspora Forum and the Southern African Women's Institute for Migration Affairs.
