Secunda - Police are still hunting for three men involved in an attack near Secunda in which a young farmer was shot dead.
Police spokesperson Khabo Skhosana said on Wednesday that Tienie Nel's killers probably used a weapon they'd stolen during a robbery earlier in the day on the farm Brakspruit.
Nel's wife Nicolene, 29, and children Zanell, 2, and Nico (seven weeks) had been in the bakkie with him when he was shot.
Nicolene grabbed the two children and ran into the veld after the first shot had hit her 33-year-old husband.
Nicolene said after ordering her to run, Tienie pulled out of his bakkie and shot again.
The killers then sped off in the bakkie. Nicolene went back to where her husband was lying.
"I phoned the foreman to come and help."
The couple and their kids had gone to look at cattle-grazing at a stream, when they spotted two men who looked as if they needed assistance.
Police say one of them apparently fired a shot when Tienie leant out the window to ask if they needed help.
Tienie was taken by bakkie to a farm shop near Brendan Village, where an ambulance was waiting for them. But he died on the way to the hospital.
