Eshowe, KwaZulu-Natal - The police are using all available resources to find one of the men alleged to have killed Prince Mazwi Zulu, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Saturday.
The hunt got under way following Mlungi Zulu's, 26, escape from the dock at the Eshowe Magistrate's Court on Friday, where he was applying for bail in an unrelated case.
"He jumped out of the dock and fled through the door," said police spokesperson Superintendent Vishnu Naidoo.
Prince Mazwi Zulu, who was the son of provincial welfare MEC Gideon Zulu, was ambushed and murdered on the road between Ulundi and Melmoth in January.
Naidoo said police were determined to see the fugitive back behind bars in time for the beginning of the trial concerning the murdered prince on Monday.
"We have alerted all other (policing) areas and border posts. They are aware he is on the loose. He was in custody for a cash-in-transit case and is wanted on several other charges," said Naidoo.
He said a senior superintendent from Durban was co-ordinating an intensive search for the missing prisoner. He was confident they would have the man back in custody in time for the trial on Monday.
